Course: Breakfast
Cuisine: American

Ingredients

Oat base
  • 1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats about 90 g; do not use instant oats
  • 1 cup milk 240 ml
  • 0.5 cup plain Greek yogurt about 120 g
  • 2 tsp maple syrup adjust to taste after chilling
  • 0.5 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 0.5 tsp vanilla extract
To serve
  • 1 cup mixed fresh blueberries and sliced strawberries about 150 g total, washed

Equipment

  • Mixing bowl
  • Whisk or fork
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Two lidded jars

Instructions

Mix, chill and serve
  1. In a mixing bowl, whisk the milk, Greek yogurt, maple syrup, cinnamon and vanilla until smooth. Stir in the old-fashioned rolled oats so every flake is coated.
  2. Divide between two clean lidded jars. Cover and refrigerate for at least 8 hours or overnight at 40°F (4°C) or below.
  3. Stir each chilled jar. If the oats are thicker than you like, stir in a small splash of milk. Top with the washed blueberries and sliced strawberries just before serving. Keep refrigerated until ready to eat.

Notes

Use old-fashioned rolled oats for texture; instant oats soften much faster. Mix the yogurt and milk first, chill the dairy base at 40°F (4°C) or below and add berries at serving. The estimated cost depends on local prices.
